Modern Earthy ResidenceResidential Design
For this full scale interior renovation of a spec home, designers Janine MacKenzie and Patrick Di Rito, brought warmth and vibrancy to the residence, creating an atmosphere that feels aspirational and livable. The interiors drew inspiration from Japanese and California residences, employing a nature-inspired color palette and clean visual language. The material of creamy lime plaster, travertine, and white oak furniture and millwork define the contours of each room. Linen, velvet, and wool textiles drape harmoniously across modern and earthy furniture silhouettes. Unlaquered metal light fixtures adorn the walls and ceiling. Each space has a grounded energy and overall cadence of calm, creating a true oasis.
Main Living SpacesCombining luxury with simplicity, the client was drawn toward earthy materials and comfortable silhouettes. We collaborated with local artist Steven Shon for a pair of custom paintings to greet the client in the entry foyer. We clad the kitchen, dining room, and living room ceilings with white oak beams. The walls we covered with a warm lime plaster.
Primary SuiteA quiet retreat from the house, the primary suite has an earthy vibrancy with a custom high pile rug under the bed and mohair chairs in the window sitting area. Travertine floors, unlaquered brass fixtures, and stained white oak adorn the primary bathroom.
Secondary SpacesFrom the basement playroom for the kids to the the 2nd floor library with secret door, we continued the natural materials and textures through the secondary spaces of the house as well.
