Bespoke
Commercial Restaurant Design
Bespoke, a Neighborhood Bar and Coffee Shop in downtown Wilmington, was reimagined by designers Patrick Di Rito and Janine MacKenzie as a seamless blend of espresso culture and Italian aperitivo tradition. The space now reflects the ease and intimacy of European cafés, balanced with the precision and warmth of Southern hospitality. Richly textured materials—painted brick walls, brass and opal glass light fixtures, and detailed, warm oak wood and brass tones of the bar and bar back —ground the experience in old-world charm. The back bar inspired by vintage Italian bottle shops houses North Carolina’s largest amaro collection, while the bespoke millwork and warm leather seating offer a tactile, welcoming elegance. This transformation honors the legacy of the beloved coffee shop while ushering in a new, all-day ritual for the neighborhood.

Neighborhood Bar & Coffee Shop
At Bespoke, every detail was considered to echo the layered rhythm of a day that begins with espresso and ends with a Negroni. The interiors are a study in contrast—old and new, sharp and softened, light and shadow. A bar front wrapped in warm wood tones and tambour details nods to the elegance of Italian café culture, while custom lighting and painted brick walls give the space its moody, intimate tone. The amaro-forward back bar becomes the room’s visual anchor, framed by the central arch and aged brass mess cabinet fronts. Designed to feel open yet enveloping, Bespoke invites regulars and newcomers alike to settle in, stay awhile, and experience the intentionality behind every element.
